Quarter One
1: I did not take part in the offered Summer Start for the Senior Project, as at the time I had no plan regarding my Senior Project, but I spent a good part of my summer thinking about my senior project. I struggled finding a topic I was not only interested in, but would remain interesting in for the entire year. In addition I wanted a project I could always be working on, one that was not reliant on certain dates, as my work schedule always varies. Finally, nearing the end of the summer I officially decided to do a paranormal travel guide, as it was a topic I have always, and will always be interested in, and I could work on the project everyday if I wanted.
2: Seeking a mentor was a major challenge for me. As I was making a travel guide there would be many important components, but I was confused as to what kind of person in the community I should approach. During one of my Citizenship classes I approached my teacher and asked for some recommendations. He suggested I ask an English teacher as writing was what he considered the main aspect of creating a travel guide, paranormal or otherwise. So I approached my English and Creative Writing teacher, Ms. Barnhart. I asked her at the end of one of our classes together if she would be my mentor and she agreed, despite having two other students she was mentoring for, because she believed I was capable of handling less attention than many other students.
3: I have started writing the guide and for quarter two will continue onward with the writing process. I will research and make sections for hopefully all the paranormal creatures on my list. In addition I will begin work on my research paper with the guidance of my English Teacher. I have not decided officially on a research topic as I have many options, but as the time draws closer to make a decision I will be prepared to choose.
